Course Topic:

Understanding Bruxism:

Etiology, Anatomy, Physiology, Diagnosis,
Management, and Therapeutic Neurotoxin
Trigger Point Injections

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the etiology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical manifestations of bruxism and other parafunctional disorders.

  • Evaluate the impact of bruxism on the dentition, occlusion, dental restorations, implants, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), and masticatory musculature.

  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans that incorporate evidence-based adjunctive therapies, including occlusal appliances, physical therapy, pharmacologic management, behavioral modifications, and therapeutic neurotoxin injections.

  • Identify appropriate candidates for therapeutic neurotoxin trigger point injections and demonstrate safe injection techniques for the management of bruxism-related muscle hyperactivity.

  • Integrate therapeutic neurotoxin treatment into multidisciplinary patient care to improve comfort, protect restorative treatment, and enhance long-term clinical outcomes.

HANDS-ON COMPONENT:

Each participant will receive 50 units of therapeutic botulinum toxin for supervised hands-on injection training. Patients will be provided by the course, and participants are not required to bring their own patients.

PRIOR LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE:

No prior experience is required. This course is appropriate for dentists seeking to incorporate therapeutic neurotoxin therapy into the management of bruxism and parafunctional disorders.

Dr. Ihab M. Hanna GP

Implantologist (AAID/ABOI Diplomate)

Dr. Ihab M. Hanna graduated, with honors, in 1994 from Cairo University. Afterward, he spent three years in training and hospital residency before moving to San Francisco. He completed two years of General practice residency at the University of Illinois, as a chief resident, where he acquired additional training in the use of Dental Implants, sedation, and special care dentistry.

With over 25 years of implant dentistry experience and faculty at Hiossen's implant education program, Dr. Hanna has extended his skills and knowledge to the community through his implant study club where he supports general dentists in advancing their education further.

Dr. Hanna is the founder of the RWC Implant Study Club and is committed to sharing dental implant education with the general dentist community.
