Blog:Live-Patient Implant Training in Cairo: Taking Implant Education Beyond the Classroom

Implant dentistry requires more than understanding techniques in theory. Dentists also need opportunities to develop surgical confidence through practical experience, mentorship, and real clinical cases. At RWC Implant Study Club in Redwood City, we are committed to providing implant education that helps dentists translate what they learn in the classroom into clinical practice.
Our Cairo Live Hands-On Surgical Course takes that approach internationally, combining live-patient implant training, direct mentorship, continuing education, and an opportunity to experience Egypt.
The Cairo program includes a six-day surgical course performed on live patients. The October 2026 program takes place at Anglo American Hospital in Cairo and offers 40 CE units, with 10 CE units provided for each training day.
Participants have the opportunity to practice procedures under mentorship rather than limiting their education to lectures or demonstrations. The program is designed to help dentists improve their surgical technique, case management, and confidence when incorporating implant procedures into their practices.
Depending on experience level, participants can develop skills ranging from foundational implant placement to more advanced full-arch procedures. Training includes:
• Surgical flap development, tissue retraction, osteotomes, suturing, and pain control
• Implant placement from basic through advanced cases
• Crestal sinus lift techniques
• Ridge expansion, ridge preservation, and socket preservation
• Full-arch and full-mouth implant placement for advanced participants
• PRF techniques, sinus lifts, ridge splits, and ridge grafting
The Level 1 program is intended for dentists who may have placed only a few implants or have not yet placed an implant, although basic suturing and extraction skills are required. Level 2 is designed for dentists with greater implant and restorative experience who want to advance into full-mouth implants, sinus lifts, and more complex grafting procedures.
Participants can also add two days of live soft tissue grafting education. This portion includes free gingival grafts and connective tissue grafts performed on live patients, along with instruction in recession classification, graft selection, donor sites, harvesting techniques, suturing, and management of postoperative discomfort and bleeding. The additional program provides 20 CE units.
The Cairo experience also combines professional development with organized sightseeing throughout Egypt. The itinerary includes visits to destinations such as the Egyptian Museum, historic Cairo, the Grand Egyptian Museum, and the Giza Pyramids. Hotel accommodations, tours, lunch, and dinner are included in the course fees, while airfare is excluded. For dentists who want to take their implant education beyond traditional lectures, this international program provides an opportunity to learn through hands-on surgery, mentorship, and real patient care.
